We're taking a break on Wednesday evenings this summer.
All regular Wednesday night activities will resume in August at our Fall Kick-Off.
This summer, take some time to rest and invest.
Here at Philadelphia Baptist Church we believe that resting and investing are vital in our walk with Christ. As we take a break from normal Midweek activities this summer, take time to rest. Use this summer as a time to slow down and recharge. Take time to invest. Invest in your spiritual walk and your family. Below you will find a number of resources and select events to help you do just that. We can't wait to see what the Lord will do when we truly take time to rest and invest.

Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy by Eric Metaxas
As Adolf Hitler and the Nazis seduced a nation, bullied a continent, and attempted to exterminate the Jews of Europe, a small number of dissidents and saboteurs worked to dismantle the Third Reich from the inside. One of these was Dietrich Bonhoeffer - a pastor and author, known as much for such spiritual classics as The Cost of Discipleship and Life Together as for his 1945 execution in a concentration camp for his part in the plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler.
Grace Awakening by Charles Swindoll
In The Grace Awakening author and trusted pastor Chuck Swindoll calls you (and all Christians) to wake up and reject living in a legalistic, performance-oriented bondage. He says, "Bound and shackled by legalists' lists of do's and don'ts, intimidated and immobilized by others' demands and expectations, far too many in God's family merely exist in the tight radius of bondage, dictated by those who have appointed themselves our judge and jury." But, the God of the universe has given you, and every other Christian, the amazing, revolutionary gift of grace and freedom. This freedom and grace sets Christianity apart from every other "religion" on the face of the earth.
How Now Shall We Live? by Charles Colson
The Christian life shapes how you see the world. It is a worldview that not only answers life's basic questions―Where did we come from, and who are we? What has gone wrong with the world? What can we do to fix it?―but also shows us how we should live as a result of those answers.
Not A Fan by Kyle Idleman
No matter where you are in your walk with Christ, Not a Fan calls you to consider the demands and rewards of being a true disciple. With frankness and a touch of humor, Idleman invites you to: examine your relationship with God, determine if you're following Jesus or just following the rules, pray the way Jesus prayed, and start truly living for the one who gave his all for you.
Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan
The story chronicles the epic adventure of a man named Christian who leaves his home in the City of Destruction and begins a life-long quest to the Celestial City. Set against the backdrop of a hazardous journey, this powerful drama unfolds as Christian’s adventures lead him into fascinating lands and encounters with interesting people who either help or hinder his progress along a narrow way. With a gallery of memorable characters and visits to colorful places, Bunyan’s allegorical narrative describes one man's extraordinary adventure on his journey to faith.
The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness by Timothy Keller
What are the marks of a supernaturally changed heart? This is one of the questions the Apostle Paul addresses as he writes to the church in Corinth. He's not after some superficial outward tinkering, but instead a deep rooted, life altering change that takes place on the inside. In an age where pleasing people, puffing up your ego and building your résumé are seen as the methods to 'make it', the Apostle Paul calls us to find true rest in blessed self forgetfulness.
The Battle Plan for Prayer by Stephen and Alex Kendrick
Prayer should become your first plan of attack in all life’s battles, not you’re your last resort. If you want to walk in greater victory while enjoying mightily answered prayer on a regular basis, it’s time to engage with God at a deeper level. Then you can discover firsthand that nothing is beyond His reach, and that knowing Him is the greatest reward of all.
The Prisoner in the Third Cell by Gene Edwards
As John the Baptist awaits his execution in prison, he struggles to understand a Lord who isn’t the Messiah he expected. Thought-provoking and beautifully written, this fictionalized account of the cousin of Christ addresses:
- Holding onto faith in the face of adversity
- Why God allows believers to endure tragedy
- Continuing to trust God’s plan when life doesn’t make sense
If you are a suffering Christian or know of one, this book will bring incredible hope―and insight into the ways of God.
